Organization Objective

Santropol Roulant uses food as a vehicle to break social and economic isolation between generations and cultures. Creatively and collaboratively, we strengthen and nourish our local community with our novel approaches to active youth engagement, urban food systems, food security and community care.

Volunteer Job(s) and Description

Mostly meal deliveries (on foot, by bike, by bus, by car). Also kitchen work (cooking, packaging food, kitchen cleaning). During Summer and Fall, gardening opportunities.

Help out in our kitchen
What: Chop fruits and veggies, bake cakes and cookies, cook main and side dishes, and of course kitchen cleaning!
When: Mornings, 9:30am-12:30pm on Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat
Who: 6 volunteers per shift
What: Package meals in containers, prepare special meals for clients with dietary restrictions, do some prep work for the next day, and of course kitchen cleaning!
When: Afternoons, 1:30-4pm on Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat
Who: 5 volunteers per shift
Help out in the community
What: Deliver meals by foot, bike, bus, or by car to our meals-on-wheels clients
When: Late afternoons from 2:45-6:00pm on Mon/Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat
Who: 10 to 16 volunteers per shift
Help out in our gardens
What: Get your green thumb on in our urban gardens and help with weeding, watering, planting, harvesting, and general getting soily on our rooftop garden or at the McGill Edible Campus
When: June to October
Other volunteer opportunities depending on the season and ad-hoc needs of the organization
